Bradley Cox

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

I now get paid to hang out with family! Red Bull just signed up my little cousin Bradley Cox so needing some images Brad and myself had a nice early morning on Saturday at Springfield Dirt Mania. It became apparent Brad doesn’t believe in warm up laps as he was a bat out of hell from the second the bike started. It also seemed his throttle doesn’t open up enough for him. Keep your eye on him. You’ve never met a more determined, confident athlete in your life. Here are some highlights from the shoot.

Red Bull Manny Mania Skate Comp at Wavehouse

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

This past weekend I had to shoot the Red Bull Manny Mania Durban qualifiers at Wave House and this weekend I’m off to Joburg to shoot the finals on Sunday. This competition is all about the technical side of skateboarding and photos can’t really do the tricks justice. That said all I do is take photos so here they are. haha. Congrats to Dlamini Dlamini who owned it!!

UCI BMX Supercross 2011

Monday, April 18th, 2011

I am still alive… barely! Been so manic but have some great updates to throw up here over the next couple of days. So here’s a late entry for April -

Last weekend was the first stop for this years UCI BMX Supercross series and it took place at Alexandra Park in Pietermaritzburg. All the world’s best riders were in town to get their olympic qualifying points up. The girls definitely have bigger balls than most guys I know, even bigger than the balls that AC/DC sing about. They had no issue hurling themselves down the 40ft roll-in and straight into a jump that looked to be around 45 feet long. Overall the racing was intense and had it’s share of thrills of spills. Three broken collarbones worth of spills to be precise. I was covering the two international Red Bull riders, Michal Prokop and Mariana Pajon. Here are some images.

Kenny Belaey

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Red Bull MTB Trials rider Kenny Belaey was in town last month and I met up with him to shoot some pics while he was filming for his tv show back home in Belgium. One of the best aspects of working for Red Bull is getting to work with such highly skilled and accomplished athletes. Would have loved to have shot more stuff but the rain had other ideas. Check out this video of Danny MacAskill its awesome!

Glen Dell

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Glen Dell was in town for the Durban Air Show a while back and I went and shot some pics of him for Red Bull. One of the great things about working with Red Bull is the amazing opportunity of working with such people of interest. It’s a constant challenge trying to do justice in a portrait but working with Glen awesome. This is his new plane by the way which was only 2 and a half hours when we took these.

Turn It Loose

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

The past month has hands down been the busiest time of my life! Not that it’s a bad thing but deadlines have meant I haven’t been able to get to my own things like this blog. There is so much stuff for me to now post up here in the next couple of days so make sure to swing by soon. For now I just wanted to chuck up this image of American Red Bull B-Boy Roxrite who is out in South Africa promoting the screenings of Turn it Loose a documentary following the lives of selected B-Boys preparing and competing in the Red Bull BC One series. Check out the trailer on the link above, the film is amazing!

For this shot I took him to the Muti Market in town… if only pictures could convey smells!!

No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world!

Busy working through the mammoth pile of processing on my plate and listening to Florence and The Machine as the title might have given away. Anyway really like this and decided to throw it up here. Back to work now though..

Oh yeah, the legs belong to Wong, who I am definitely amped to shoot with in the near future.

Red Bull Manny Mania

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Yesterday I shot the Red Bull Manny Mania contest that took place at Wave House. The contest was awesome with the winner Simon Stipcich, a local shredder earning himself an all expenses paid ten day trip to New York to compete in the world finals. Sorry about the front wheel Jonty

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

These pics were taken on the same trip as Nick’s wakeboarding photos. Jonty Neethling rides for Fox as well. He’s a straight up cool cat with more steez than Rolf Offerman. On one of the days riding his jumps in Somerset West I tried out his bike and pretzeled his front wheel, I took a serious beating myself. Live by the sword die the sword. Sorry about the wheel me boy.

Missed Powder By A Day

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Damn it! Sometimes things just don’t work out in your favour. Blessings in disguise? Not sure if I believe in such things. Things are what you make them is what I’m going to roll with.

This past Saturday while shooting the Fox Pro Am at Giba Gorge I got a call asking if I wanted to head down to Tiffindell to shoot the Miller Ski & Snowboard invitational. How could I pass that up? Problem was I had one day to get all my shot together, source some warm clothes and recover from a drastic hangover thanks to Durban’s always rocking I Heart Durban parties. No small feat.

To cut a long story short I left Durban at 3am on Monday morning, survived the eight hour drive, shot photos of the following two days whilst snowboarding in between. Unfortunately I left the day snow arrived and I bet everyone there is currently having the most amazing time bombing some powdered peaks. Snowboarding really isn’t like anything else and I’d like to thank Nicola, Piere and Liam for such a great time.

PS. If you ever go to Tiffindell, make sure you absorb how rad the little town of Rhodes is. It’s a gem.
