Maloof Money Cup

This past weekend I had to shoot the Red Bull Manny Mania Durban qualifiers at Wave House and this weekend I’m off to Joburg to shoot the finals on Sunday. This competition is all about the technical side of skateboarding and photos can’t really do the tricks justice. That said all I do is take photos so here they are. haha. Congrats to Dlamini Dlamini who owned it!!

In an effort to shoot some pre press images for Red Bull’s Manny Mania contests happening in June across the country, myself and Hurley, Nixon, K-Swiss and Vida-E Cafe (what a list of sponsors) sponsored Andrew Carrie drove around Umhlanga looking for spots to skate. Our mission was unsuccessful so we headed to Wave House to get at least one picture… Andrew knows how to boooooooost high airs and can tweak em like the best.

Busy working through the mammoth pile of processing on my plate and listening to Florence and The Machine as the title might have given away. Anyway really like this and decided to throw it up here. Back to work now though..
Oh yeah, the legs belong to Wong, who I am definitely amped to shoot with in the near future.

Yesterday I shot the Red Bull Manny Mania contest that took place at Wave House. The contest was awesome with the winner Simon Stipcich, a local shredder earning himself an all expenses paid ten day trip to New York to compete in the world finals. Shooting skateboarding can suck sometimes. Like yesterday when I headed out to shoot an ad for Quiksilver. I arrived at the ICC in Durban to meet skater Braxton Haine. He was busy filming some technical lines for tv so I decided to get Khule Nia to attempt a drop / gap I spotted. The shot looked like it was gonna be epic. I got set-up (having to trespass to place my flash where I wanted it) and then got Khule to try kickflip the gap. Apparently we sounded off the fire alarm and as a result security clamped down on us before Khule got to land the trick. So now I’m stuck with a cool photo and no where to place it. Well, this is where blogs can come in handy.

I shot this quite a while ago and it’s been sitting on desktop for ages. It’s one of my favourite skate shots I’ve taken, with one of the most driven skaters in SA you could shoot with (Dlamini Dlamini). The slide is quite narrow and the floor was pretty slippery but Dlamini slayed it a couple of times for me to get the shot I wanted. Shots like this keep me stoked for days.

I’m busy assisting Durban based photographer Sean Laurenz all the while getting some work off to Session Skateboarding Mag for their 7th Birthday edition. One of my submissions is the DC Relentless Progression Comp that went down last month at Wave House. In the editing process I came across this pic of Dave Morrisson who heads up Iron Fist in Durban with his wife Brie. I’ve known Dave for years. He’s one authentic lad and a great person to know. Anyways, I like this pic.
